History of the monument
"Zindan" from Persian means 'prison,' 'dungeon.' Zindan was a deep chamber to confine prisoners. The 18th -century dungeon was built to the north-west corner of ancient Shahristan. It consisted of several debtors' prison, the solitary confinement, and underground dungeon, built with burnt brick of about 5 meters in diameter and 6.5 meters deep.
In the territory of zindan, there is a grave of Kuchkar ota (8th c.), who was worshipped by inmates as saint.
The Museum History
The museum exhibition gives information about the legal proceedings in the Bukharan emirate during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
