The history of the madrasah.
The Ibrahim Okhund madrasah was built in 1884. The madrasah is a part of the architectural ensemble consisting of the Oy-Binoq mosque and Muhammad Nabi madrasah. The Ibrahim Okhund madrasah is a two-storeyed building with a patio consisting of 38 hudjras (dwelling cells). It is situated in Oy-Binoq neighborhood. There were 35 houses in the neighborhood and its residents were mainly engaged in trade.
The history of the museum
The museum's exhibition was set up in 1995. It gives information on ancient Varakhsha that had flourished in the early medieval (4th -7th cc.). Until the 7th century, Varakhsha had been the residence of Bukhar-khudats, the local rulers of Bukhara. The ancient settlement is located 40 km north-west of Bukhara. Varakhsha was the last station before an eight-day journey from Bukhara to Khorezm through the Kizilkum desert. The layout of Varaksha included the following parts:the citadel- the residence of rulers;shahristan- the downtown with the houses of rich urban dwellers;rabad- handicraft suburbs The permanent exhibition mainly demonstrates the fragments of the carved objects from the palace.
