BUKHARA MUSEUM OF WATER-SUPPLY HISTORY,
THE CHASHMA-I AYUB MAUSOLEUM (12th-16th cc.)

The history of the mausoleum and museum.

The Chashma-i Ayub mausoleum is the only structure in Bukhara that was simultaneously erected with the famous buildings in Samarkand and Shahrisabz during the reign of Amir Temur.

The initial construction of the building, however, goes back to the reign of Arslankhan of the Karakhanid dynasty, who, too, ordered to erect the Namozgoh mosque (1120), and Kalyan minaret (1127).

According to the inscription engraved on the tombstone, Chashma-i Ayub was erected in 1379 by Amir Temur's order. The particular year coincides with the period of Timur's sending a significant number of masters from Khorezm to Shahrisabz for a palace building.

The exhibition of the museum tells about the history of water-supply in the Bukhara region during the 10th - 20th centuries.

Most interesting are the objects of the water skins (18th - 20th cc.), copper dish for water use (18th -20th cc.), and ceramic water pipes (18th - 19th cc.).
